As a whole, you can expect to come across posts in this blog about my faith in Jesus, photography sessions including portraits, engagements and weddings, along with everyday happenings in life here on Gabriola Island, B.C.
Here is one such of those happenings and it involves photography!
On Saturday, August 17th, I shot my first wedding. I have some photography shoots under my belt so far, but this one was extra exciting as the couple who joined in marriage are my friends, Thomas and Destiny. These two met back in 2002 at Gabriola Fellowship Church, when Destiny was only seven and Thomas eleven. Now newlyweds, Thomas and Destiny have been together for over three years; they love and serve God passionately with their gifts, as both are extremely talented in many ways, but especially when it comes to music. Thomas plays the piano, drums, guitar and bass by ear – he does not read music, at all – and pretty much can figure out how to play any other instrument; Destiny also plays the guitar and she sings with one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Our Sunday morning service at church is infused with Thomas’ piano skills, as are our youth group gatherings. I’m sure Destiny will become just as involved in our services now that she is living here. I look forward to serving with you, Destiny!
Being the great friends they are, Destiny and Thomas willingly modeled for my first ever photo shoot, a couple’s portrait session, back in October [this is that every day happening I was talking about]. I also shot their engagement session in May, but let’s start at the beginning. You’ll get to see a blog post of their engagement and wedding photos in the future.
It had been pouring all morning that October day we planned on doing the photo shoot; the rain was coming down in sheets [hence the gumboots]. We didn’t want to reschedule though because Destiny was only visiting from the Mainland for a short time, so I packed my big umbrella and drove to Thomas’ house. It was still coming down in buckets when I arrived, but within half an hour, the rain lightened and we headed outside. The following photos are a sampling of what we captured.
The gumboots are very Gabriola-esque so I think they work. Enjoy!
Happy Saturday and last day of August everyone! Thanks for checking out my first blog post!
